The Penguins came into the game after some time off after a little skid during the long streak of games. This game was also Fleury's first game back in net after missing some time with a groin injury.

1st Period

The game started off all Thrashers and Fleury was tested early and came out on top this lasted for about the the first 4 shifts for the Penguins. Then Cookie took a pass from from Tim Wallace about 6 minutes in and put one in the oven to make it 1-0 Pens. From this point the Penguins started to dominate the offensive zone of the Thrashers and this lead to Geno putting one in the basket of a rebound at about the 10 minute mark to make it 2-0 Penguins.The Thrashers gain the offensive zone and Fedotenko plants Enstrom into the wall and goes to the box. Penalty killed, with less than a minute left in the period Oprik gets tied up in front of the net after Marty Reasoner was knocked to the ground by Crosby which interfered with his a bility to block the shot, Kovalchuck slaps in and it goes in off Reasoner's leg 2-1 Pens. After the mayhem breaks loose Crosby and Orpik goto the sin bin end of the first period.

2nd Period

During the first intermission we learned about the plus minus system YAY!!! Steigy and Errey talked a little about how Orpiks knee maybe hurt from the way it buckled when he was taken out by Reasoner before the Thrashers goal. The 2nd period starts Crosby still in the box Pens kill the penalty and get back to work in the offensive zone and draw a holding penalty on Joseph Crabb. And it only took 30 ticks into the powerplay for Malkin set up Staal in front of the net to tickle the twine to make it 3-1 Da 'Guins. Thrashers start to get frustrated Colby Armtrong high sticks Geno draws some blood but only gets 2 minutes, Pens go back to work on the powerplay. After allowing Atlanta to move the puck into the offensive zone the Pens get the biscuit back and take it to the net Jeff Taffe sets up Miro Satan in front of the net he shoots and scores 4-1 Penguins. Eaton takes a hooking penalty at the 7 minute mark and THe Thrashers goto work on the powerplay and Bryan Little wide open in the front of the net puts one in 4-2 Penguins. Don't count the pens out yet right after the Thrashers scored Malkin gets the puck at center ice and does some god like stick handling passes it to Sykora behind his back who finds Malkin skating the the neutral zone and sets up Bobby Boucher who buries it from the point 5-2 'Guins. Thrashers change goalies and bring in former Penguins goalie Johan Hedberg. Cooke gives a high stick, penalty killed Geno almost scored a short handed but he was tripped up no penalty called. The Thrashers get possession after the penalty is over and get a 2 on 1 advantage and Fleury robs Perrin of a goal. The refs finally call a tripping penalty the Pens go on the powerplay and do nothing. The Thrashers start to try and take shots at Malkin, Godard comes on the ice and goes to work challenges Boris Valabik, he wants nothing to do with the God of Thunder what a sissified tweety bird end of the second Pens up on the Thrashers 5-2.

3rd Period

As the third period starts the Pens find themselves playing defense in their own zone for the better part of the first 3 minutes of the period. I missed what happened but Eric Godard and Colby Armstrong both got hit with 10 minute game misconduct penalties. The teams battle back and fourth for most of the period Malkin takes a penalty for throwing an elbow the Thrashers continue to get alot of chances. After Colby served his 10 minute penalty he gets a steal in the offensive zone and puts one in to make it 5-3 Penguins. With around 2 minutes left Atlanta pull Hedberg and puts an extra attacker on the ice after a couple unsucessful attempts at an empty net goal Crosby finds Malkin skating down the ice and feeds him to get the empty netter 6-3 and thats the game Penguins win.
