The Powder Blues Fail Again

Penguins VS Flyers

Tyler Kennedy against the Flyers on 3/22

As much as I like the alternate jerseys the Pens really need to quit wearing them, they are like a jinx against the team to lose. The team is now 2-6-2 in the blues this season, thats not what you would call a great track record for the first year of them. Ok so on to the game, I managed to miss the first 2 periods since I pulled spring yard duty today so I can't really analyze anything I didn't see. What I did see was the third period and the Pens looked like they were having trouble entering the Philly zone and were playing dump and chase for the most part so I going to assume this is how the rest of the game went. Knowing this tells me that the Penguins stood little chance in today's game since they have struggled against teams when they are facing a trap that forces them to dump the puck in the zone and skate after it.

Back to the 3rd period of the game the Penguins managed to pull within 1 goal and deny Biron the shutout with a power play goal from Kris Letang, but the magic was fizzled when the Flyers scored the empty netter in the final minute to put the game out of reach and seal the victory for the Flyers. See the highlights to catch the rest of the game.

With the loss the Penguins remain in 5th place and fall back 2-points behind the Flyers as they take over sole possession of 4th place with 11 games remaining. The Penguins only have 8 games remaining on the schedule to stay in the playoff hunt. I believe with the way the teams are playing behind the Pens that they will need to win atleast 5 of these remaining 8, but the road will not be easy with the next game against the Calgary Flames followed by the Rangers and Devils.
