Penguins VS Rangers
4   3

The Penguins took on the New York Rangers yesterday afternoon in a game with major playoff implications. The win had temporarily moved the Penguins into a tie with Philly for 4th but with wins by both the Flyers and Hurricanes last night the Penguins moved back into the 6 spot in the conference, 3-points ahead of the Rangers.

The first period of the game started out all Penguins with as they put up a 2-0 lead with goals from Max Talbot and Matt Cooke in the first 12 minutes only to watch it slip away in the final 1:30 of the frame when the Rangers added two of their own.

The second period was more of the same with the Penguins taking control and giving the Rangers very few chances, but the Rangers were able to keep themselves alive with the #1 penalty killing unit in the NHL killing 4 Penguin in the period. Both teams were able to tally another goal in the frame the Penguins getting theirs from another unlikely canidate in Ruslan Fedotenko and the Rangers goal came from a lucky bounce by Nik Antropov.

The third period was predominantly Penguins from start to finish, the Pens were able to take the lead on a Crosby breakaway, but they were once again unable to find the empty net. I don't know the complete NHL rule book but from what I heard the Pens were hosed out of 2 empty net goals yesterday when Geno and Sid were interfered with on the way to the goal. But being that it had no bearing on the outcome of the game I can't be too upset about it. The Pens finished the month with a 10-1-2 record and their next game is against Atlantic division rival New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night to close out this current homestand.

I would normally have game highlights here but they are not working on the NHL or Penguins website/
