Pens Fly Against the Blues

The Penguins went into St. Louis last night and took care of business by defeating the Blue Notes 6-3 in a pretty exciting matchup. Hal Gill and Scuderi were both rocking the "A's" on their sweaters tonight. Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't see Brooks Brooks rocking an A, I thought he was supposed to keep it warm for Gonch and there was only going to be one rotating Alternate. Let's check out some highlights.

Coming out of the first period with the score 2-1 Blues it looked as if they had an answer for everything the Pens did especially after scoring their second goal right after the Penguins notted it up with a goal from Satan. But in the second period it started pouring pucks in the net of Chris Mason as the Pens took a 4-2 lead with goal from Goligoski, Kennedy, and a powerplay goal from Malkin. In the third the Pens locked it down and didn't give the game away even after a blocked shot on Fluery was deflected in on the rebound to make it a 4-3 game. The Penguins answered with a goal from Mad Max Talbot less than a minute later to make it 5-3 and capped off the win with an empty netter from Jordan Staal which was a his first goal of the year.

Marc-Andre Fleury

Good things coming out of this game:

  • The Pens penalty kill unit was phenomenal against the #1 powerplay unit in the NHL.
  • Fleury is still phenomenal.
  • Hal Gill was back in the lineup and he was rocking a "A" on his sweater.
  • A much needed win coming out of this 4 game road trip which they only had 1 point from so far.
